TEA worried over steep hike in organic cotton yarn prices

The Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA) recently expressed concern over the steep hike in organic cotton yarn prices in recent months that has badly affected the organic garment exporting units. These units are in no way in a position to absorb the price hike to the tune of 30 per cent, and therefore, TEA appealed to buyers to appreciate the problem.

It is apparent these garment units cannot continue to export organic garments at earlier price points to niche markets, TEA president Raja M Shanmugham said in a press release.

TEA members are still passing through a challenging business environment caused due to various adverse factors like increasing of yarn prices, labor costs and accessories prices apart from the spurt in freight charges to the tune of 15-20 per cent, he said.
